Abstract
Freshly harvested shrimp had bacterial counts ranging from 10 super(4)-10 super(6), Klebsiella) and Enterobacter were the predominant coliforms present in fresh shrimp and accounted for the positive faecal coliform tests. These coliforms were also present in sediments from shrimp harvesting areas. Potentially pathogenic vibrios like Vibrio parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus were present in freshly harvested shrimps though V. cholerae and Salmonella were absent.
