Abstract
Severe corrosion problems are encountered in desalination plants, related facilities and power stations, which cause safety problems and high costs through shutdown and replacement of equipment. Preventing corrosion will increase the availability and reliability of the plants. A computer-aided experience retrieval system would provide readily accessable documented experience to the owner of a desalination and power plant. A computer program based on a data bank system for corrosion in desalination plants and power stations (COREX) has been developed. It stores the corrosion experience of the Water & Electricity Department (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) in its desalination plants and power stations. COREX can be interrogated by planning, operating, and maintenance staff, and can also be used for training purposes.
