Abstract
A microcontroller based sensor was designed for ammonia sensing. Cadmium zinc sulphide (CdZnS) nanoparticles were used as the sensing material. CdZnS nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical precipitation method. Synthesized CdZnS nanoparticles were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). CdZnS nanoparticles were deposited as thick films on glass substrate to act as gas sensor and its response to ammonia vapours was recorded using LabVIEW program interfaced with the microcontroller. The preliminary studies revealed that CdZnS nanoparticles can be used for ammonia sensing and the microcontroller based sensor design on proper calibration and integration can lead to the fabrication of a handheld sensor for sensing multiple parameters.
