Abstract
Two new flavonoids, quercetin 6,4'-dimethoxy-3-fructo-rhamnoside. (1) and quercetin 4'-methoxy-3-fructo-rhamnoside.(2), in addition to five known compounds were isolated from Atriplex lentiformis (Torr.) S. Wats and identified as kaempferol-4'-methoxy-rutinoside (3), kaempferol 7 rhamnoside (4), kaempferol 3,7-dirhamnoside (5), quercetin (6) and kaempferol (7). Their structures were established by using (UV, (1)HNMR, (13)CNMR and El-MS.). Oral administration of total alcoholic, diethyl ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts revealed that this plant is safe for human use up to 5g/kg.b.wt.), no side effects were detected for all extracts and some of the isolated compounds on both AST and ALT (liver and kidney function). All of the extracts and the isolated compounds were tested for their antioxidant activity, the two new compounds were found to have the highest antioxidant activity with no side effect. The results of this study revealed that this plant is very good as antioxidant with no side effect on liver and kidney functions.
