Abstract
The feasibility of using external loop bioreactor system for the production of monoclonal antibodies by mouse/mouse hybridoma cells immobilized in Poly-l-lysine(PLL)-alginate microcapsule was investigated. Batch culture of immobilized cells followed logarithmic growth, reaching a concentration of 7 x 107 cells/mL of capsule after 20 days giving monoclonal antobody (mAb) concentrations of up to 600.μg/ml of capsule. The main advantages of the bioreactor system used is control of process parameters, minimized shear stresses on immobilized cells and retention of the product (mAb) within the microcapsule.
