Abstract
Indirect haemagglutination (IHAT) and mouse protection test (MPT) were used to assess the antibody response in three groups of camels (Camelus dromedarius) vaccinated with haemorrhagic septicaemia (H.S.) plain bacterin, alum precipitated vaccine and the combination of the two vaccines. No local or systemic reactions were observed in the vaccinated camels. In the first week post-vaccination antibody titres in the group vaccinated with plain bacterin appeared earlier and were higher than those obtained with the other two vaccines. The peak of antibody titres were reached only two weeks post-vaccination in case of plain bacterin while in case of alum precipitated vaccine and the combination of the two vaccines the peaks were detected in a period from sixth to ninth weeks post- vaccination. Sera of camels vaccinated with alum-precipitated vaccine and the combination of alum-precipitated vaccine and plain bacterin were more protective to mice and persistent at 8, 19 and 23 weeks as compared to the protective capacity of sera collected from camel vaccinated with plain bacterin vaccine.
