Abstract
A survey of the insect fauna of Asir, a province of south-western Saudi Arabia was undertaken, mainly using Malaise traps and sweep nets between 2001 and 2004. Twenty known species of Calliphoridae were identified and recorded in this study, 13 of which are recorded for the first time. This makes the total number of Calliphoridae species currently known to exist in Saudi Arabia 26. Biological information and geographical distribution of these species are included together with some taxonomic remarks. The Calliphoridae recorded in this study contain many more species of Palaearctic origin than of Afrotropical origin.
