Abstract
Using of series compensation is used in transmission systems to increase the line capacity, improve transient stability, and decrease system losses. Metal oxide varistor (MOV) is used as an overvoltage protection. Application of series compensation results in problems for protection systems of the transmission line, as fault location and distance protection. ATPDraw as an electromagnetic transient simulation tool needs a model for correctly simulation of the adaptive relay. Therefore, this paper proposes an adaptive distance relay model in ATPDraw based on the fuzzy logic-based fault locator. The results confirm the proposed model ability of correctly fault location calculation for series compensation transmission lines using ATPDraw.
