Abstract
This paper presents an Analytic Hierarch Process based vertical handover algorithm that provides QoS over IEEE 802.11e and IEEE 802.16e networks. The cost function for the optimal handover decision was obtained by taking into account the Received Signal Strength, User preferences, Monetary cost, Mobile Node velocity and QoS such as data rate, delay, and Bit Error -Rate. Four traffic-based profiles were proposed for best effort, conversational, streaming, and interactive applications. The proposed algorithm was evaluated using as performance measures the blocking probability, the achieved average data rate, and average delay. The results show that all the QoS requirements for the considered applications were completely satisfied.
