Abstract
In this paper, a compact size multi-band antenna based on square split ring resonators (SSRRs) is designed for 3G and WiFi applications. The SSRR structure is a metamaterial which possesses the properties of negative permittivity or/and negative permeability. The frequency operation of this special structure has been mathematically formulated for muti-band antenna design. The results are verified with the help of electromagnetic software simulation, equivalent circuit model and fabricated prototype. The antenna achieves excellent return loss S-11<-20 dB at both bands of operation. The peak gains of 2.9 dBi and 3.1 dBi at 2.1 GHz and 2.4 GHz frequency, respectively with corresponding radiation efficiency of 67.2% and 68.1% were obtained.
