Abstract

Although several technical approaches have been proposed and analyzed, the exact performance of these systems is still unclear. In this paper, we develop an analytical cost model for studying the performances of Host Identity Protocol (HIP), Identifier-Locator Network Protocol (ILNP) and Locator/Identifier Separation Protocol (LISP). Our main motivation is to compare the performance of host-based and network-based Id/Loc split approaches through the study of these three protocols. Therefore, we develop corresponding analytical cost models and we study the following performance metrics: Connection Establishment Cost (CEC) and Data Packet Delivery Cost (DPC). We also study the impacts of the number of correspondent hosts (CHs) and the network scale on CEC and DPC.
