Abstract
This paper deals with the design and control of a connected wind hybrid generation system employing a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) drove by a variable speed wind turbine and a variable irradiation PV solar feeding a three-phase four wire local loads. The ac terminals of the rotor-side converter are connected to the DFIG's rotor. A Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) based rotor speed control is proposed. The PV solar is connected to the rotor-side converter. A nonlinear control is applied to grid-side converter, which operates as a shunt active power filter for compensating harmonics, unbalanced load currents and voltage regulation at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC). A new approach is also proposed for modeling the Voltage Source Converter (VSC). The proposed system is modeled and simulated using Power System Blockset Toolbox PSB of Matlab. The performance of the wind-PV solar hybrid system is presented to demonstrate its capability of MPPT, harmonics compensation, load balancing, and ac voltage regulation.
