Abstract
Students' attendance registration in the university education system is an essential activity. Manual student attendance process by circulating a sheet to students for registering their names, or the instructors calling out their names, especially in large classrooms in universities, is not only a time consuming process but may lead to registering false attendance. In this scenario, using mobile apps to speed up the process of attendance registration by university lecturers would save time and prevent false registration. This project has developed an app called Electronic Attendance-Taking system (EAS) for taking attendance electronically using Bluetooth technology. The proposed model is based on the indoor positioning system called iBeacon technology meant for businesses to send signals to nearby mobile phones to promote their presence to passers-by. Communication between the user and the system on EAS is facilitated through the graphical user interface (GUI) designed in mobile apps and to be linked to the university academic information systems. System users can keep track of attendance activities like attendance taking, attendance termination, excuses registration, and many more, further, the system also verifies students' identity to eliminate false registrations.
