Abstract
Several characteristics of cortical visual impairment (CVI) can be resolved with careful assessment and planned, consistent intervention. Unfortunately, computer-based tools to support such intervention are few and provide limited activities, customization and data recording options. This paper, therefore, presents a novel mobile application that provides several activities to develop the functional vision and visuomotor skills of children with CVI. Several options are offered to customize the visual content and sensory stimuli (e.g., the visual complexity of the scene, the size, color, motion direction and speed of objects, and the audio/visual rewards) to each child's specific needs. The system also records data related to the child's performance and allows multiple teachers to keep track of their students' individual progress. The system is being developed in consultation with teachers for children with CVI to ensure that its design takes typical CVI characteristics into account appropriately and supports actual teaching practices for the targeted skills.
