Abstract
The Wireless Sensors Networks (WSN) are supposed to work in unattended work environments. Therefore, the energy issues in WSN have always been focus of researchers. Many protocols have been proposed for addressing these energy issues. Data reduction and compression algorithms are generally used for data storage applications and transmission systems. Data reduction (DR) algorithms have potential for achieving energy efficiency in WSN packet transmission. This paper suggests a lossless data reduction algorithm which exploits the non-variability in the sensed data samples recorded by sensor nodes. The developed algorithm allows reduced payload size, which brings overall positive improvement on energy consumption due to reduced WSN packet size. In addition, more information such as video can be included with data using with higher edge of data reduction. The performance of the proposed DR algorithm has been evaluated in term of compression ratio.
