Abstract
Over the years, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been known for economic crises that occur regularly mainly due to oil shocks. However, the major impacts of recession on consumer buying behavior have not been clear to many. Identifiably, consumer behavior refers to how consumers make decisions on purchasing and consuming items. At times, some conditions determine the behavior of consumers. Importantly, recession is the worsening of the economy due to ineffectiveness in sonic economic activities. Recession drags the economy down and hinders the development of the economy over time. The research examines the relationship between recession and consumer buying behavior. Furthermore, the study analyzes some responses of consumers following the oil shocks that deteriorated the economy in Saudi Arabia. The analysis is performed using the review of available credible resources to determine the impact of recessions caused by oil shocks (mostly) on the buying behavior of population. It has determined the primary focus on the analysis of consumer buying behavior during recession period, various variables of consumer behavior in relation to recession, theoretical framework of the study, and the data analysis of the research question as well as the need in future research in the area, and provision of recommendations and management implications. The conclusion of the study analyzes what ought to he done to control recession and maintain a positive consumer buying behavior most probably in the near future in Saudi Arabia.
