Abstract

An automatic procedure for modeling terrain is developed based on L-2 projection-based interpolation of discrete terrain data onto transfinite function spaces. The function space is refined automatically by the use of image processing techniques to detect regions of high error and the flexibility of the transfinite interpolation to add degrees of freedom to these areas. Examples are shown of a section of the Palo Duro Canyon in northern Texas. (C) 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
