Abstract
The CYP4F subfamily members arc known to be involved in the hydroxylation of arachidonic acid, lipoxin, tocopherol, leukotriene B4, prostaglandins and ebastine. The functional role of CYP4F enzymes has been linked to inflammatory processes and to the biotransformation of certain xenobiotics. Here we describe the catalytic activity of human CYP4F11 a new member of the CYP4F subfamily. Our data showed that arachidonic acid, leukotriene B4 and other saturated or unsaturated fatty acids are metabolized by CYP4F11. In the case of arachidonic acid, the unique metabolite formed was identified by mass-spectrometry as 20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid.
