Abstract
This paper presents a system engineering approach for redefining an engineering curriculum in accordance with the modern engineering requirements. The study explores the application of system engineering concepts for the analysis of traditional higher education system and the modification of present curriculum. The need for innovation and development in the engineering curriculum is highlighted by the review and analysis of the curriculum of civil engineering department at Shaqra University. A new course structure is proposed and implemented to modify the academic plan in proportion to modern engineering. A survey is conducted to verify the effectiveness of new curriculum, further a comparative analysis of old and new curriculum is carried out and conclusions are drawn with respect to student feedbacks.
