Abstract
Conference Title: 2018 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE) Conference Start Date: 2018, Sept. 23 Conference End Date: 2018, Sept. 27 Conference Location: Portland, OR, USA In this paper, a centralized control algorithm of the wind farm is proposed to maintain a certain reserve of power to be utilized during primary frequency control. The algorithm is designed to minimize the power losses within the wind farm by optimizing the share of every individual wind turbine. Instead of using equal share, each wind turbine is assigned a weighed power reserve based on its operating condition, and its location on the feeder. The wake effect on the downstream wind turbines is considered. Also, the local controller is designed to maintain the amount of reserve power received from central controller considering direct-drive wind turbine system. To validate the proposed controller, the wind farm is modeled and controlled using Matlab\Simulink.
