Abstract
The article deals with the climatic related planning strategies which should be implemented in the future European cities. The aim is to create sustainable, dense, compact and high climatic and environmental quality cities. This can be achieved if the following measures are taken: changing the traditional skyline of cities from that of a bell type to more or less that of a straight line of high-rise buildings and between them green open spaces, using underground spaces, adjusting the layout of cities to the climate in which they are located, afforestation of the urban environment, integrating climatological elements in the planning and building of buildings and using alternative, sustainable energies.
