Abstract
Materials used in water pipes for water supply can have significant influence on the drinking water quality, whereas volatile components originated from plastic pipes and other additives used for manufacturing of plastic pipes can easily transferred into drinking water supply network, thus cause health effects to the consumers. This study investigates the effect of polymeric pipes (PEX1, PEX2 and PEX3) on the water quality obtained from the laboratory labs and houses for selected volatile organic components (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, xylene and Styrene). Distilled water incubated in the pipes in laboratory experiment was found to leach petroleum hydrocarbon compounds. Water quality polluted by organic content migrated from polymeric pipes and transported to other network materials.
