Abstract
This paper proposes a design and analysis of combined chopper-crowbar protection (CCCP) scheme based on artificial intelligence for doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) wind power system connected to grid during fault. The adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) networks are utilized as an artificial intelligence to detect the fault occurrence and activate the proposed protection scheme. The proposed protection scheme is used to turn on alternating current (AC) crowbar resistor which is connected to the DFIG terminals, and also turn on direct current (DC) chopper resistor which is connected to the DC-link capacitor (DCLC) terminals of DFIG wind turbine (WT). The behaviour of the studied system is investigated when it is protected by proposed CCCP scheme and compared with the other schemes such as DC chopper protection (DCCP) scheme, AC crowbar protection (ACCP) scheme, and without protection schemes. Also, the accuracy of the proposed protection scheme is investigated at different ground fault resistance values.
