Abstract
Global electricity demand has been growing very rapidly to meet the needs of modern civilization for uninterrupted supply of electricity. Therefore an efficient operating policy for committed units (CUs), in order to meet the load demand is very important for power utility operators. Economic Dispatch (ED) problem helps to find a suitable operating policy to reduce the fuel cost for CUs without violating system and unit constraints. Efficient use of available renewable energy plays an important role in reducing the fuel cost while dispatching the demand. High value of renewable energy penetration can be achieved with the aid of energy storage devices. ED problem of hybrid power systems with renewable sources and energy storage facilities at various penetration levels is discussed in this paper. MATLAB simulations are performed for 3 generator test data to illustrate the benefits of high penetration level of renewable with the help of energy storage for reducing the fuel cost.
