Abstract
This paper discusses some of the issue in the micromechanical property Le hardness, elastic modulus and yield strength of 4N (99.99%) purity of gold (Au) wire using micro-universal testing machine. A series of micro-tensile test were performed with different strain rate values of 10 degrees-10(-4) min(-1) on to a 25.4 mu m diameter plain gold wire. This study focuses on the effect of strain rate towards typical mechanical properties such as strength, yield point and strain. The results show that the mechanical properties of ultra-fine gold wire are proportional with increasing strain rate. It is because that the dimension of ultra- fine wire, microstructure polycrystalline behavior plays a role on this mechanical behavior, at least in this particular ultra-fine wire.
