An epidemiology survey was carried out where 9540 children age up to 12 years to study the prevalence of acute suppurative otitis media and the rate of hearing impairment. A total of 100 (1.05%) were diagnosed to have acute otitis media. The children whose parents were first cousins (1.38%) or relatives (1.12%) had a high rate of acute otitis media as compared to the children whose parents were not related (0.74%). The younger children had high rate of this disease, the children up to 4 years of age had (1.94%) incidence, whereas in the age group of >4-8 years and >8-12 years it was (1.19%) and (0.52%) respectively. Male children had higher rate (1.36%) of acute otitis media as compated to female (0.80%) children. The rate of hearing impairment was (50%) in the children exposed to acute otitis media as compared to (12.61%) in unexposed children.
