Abstract
The information found on the World Wide Web has added a now dimension to selecting resources.
It is important to provide the necessary guidelines used to evaluate, and determine the quality and accuracy of the information found on the World Wide Web.
The purpose of this paper is to provide an evaluation and comparative study for methodologies applied by sites,dedicated to evaluate and rank the world universities. The set of the web sites dealing with the ranking of the higher education was listed. It is not a comprehensive list, but rather, offers a general sense of the range of existing resources that might be considered in the evaluation of websites. This paper presents a survey on the most important sites in that context which are Shanghai, Webomatrics Maclean and Education Guardian's. The criteria of ranking for each site were stated and the comparison between the ranking of Shanghai and Webometrics sites show a good correlation.
