Abstract
A new technique for field decorrelation in MIMO antennas using transformation electromagnetics (TE) to reduce the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is presented in this work. Based on the concept of TE, an all-dielectric device is proposed to tilt the radiation patterns of the MIMO antenna elements in opposite directions in order to achieve field decorrelation. The all-dielectric device is realized by using quasi-conformal transformation electromagnetics (QCTE). The effectiveness of the proposed technique is verified by designing a two element MIMO antenna at 3 GHz. Based on simulations, the proposed technique results in more than 82% reduction in the ECC value which indicates an enhanced MIMO performance.
