Abstract
This study analyzes gendered humor, based on a content analysis of two hundred funny quotes, one hundred each by male and female authors, selected from Goodreads. com. The intent of this paper is to raise awareness concerning the impact of funny quotes on the readers' perception about gender. These quotes are very entertaining so the reader will laugh at the humor and be fascinated by the content of the quotes. These quotes have an inherent tendency to convey their message innocently and effectively. Results suggest that women are discussed more than men as the target of humor in funny quotes, authored by both genders. The essentialist theme of gender differences is very prevalent. Male authors discuss women as enigmatic and imaginative creature but the female authors assert their outstanding rationality by emphasizing on men's inability and lack of intellect to understand women. So the gender equalities are rather recognized than criticized in the twentieth century funny quotes.
