Abstract
Genetic Algorithms have attained overwhelming attention in successfully solving many computer vision problems. This paper addresses a robust face detection method with images in diversified backgrounds employing genetic algorithm. The system is organized with skin color segmentation in YCbCr color space. Since the computational cost for genetic algorithm is extremely high, the searching zone for probable face area is limited to skin color region so that the required processing time has been greatly reduced. The efficacy of this system has been verified over experimental procedures which reveal that the proposed face detector implements better than existing methods in terms of success rate and capability of allowing dissimilar illumination condition.
