Abstract
We present a new hand gesture-based user interface to efficiently manipulate static 3D content using the Leap Motion Controller. Our method uses intuitive gestures utilizing only the movement of the thumb and the index finger coupled with the hand rotation. These gestures not only allow the user to rotate the 3D content around the three axes but also scale the 3D content. We implement these gestures using the Leap Motion Controller and present the implementation details. We perform a comprehensive user study to demonstrate the effectiveness of our user interface in terms of both usability and user experience. The user study shows that a gesture-based user interface can be employed as a viable mechanism to manipulate 3D content and can be used in a number of applications.
