This paper studies the hierarchical routing in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) following a new in-depth classification model comprising nine classes, discussed briefly in this study (purposes, characteristics ...), in order to provide a deep assessment facilitating the implementation of routing protocols for researchers and protocols designers.
