Abstract
This special tile called 'Moarragh' for exterior and interior surfaces of buildings from 10th century is still produced in small factories in Iran. Water is added to the raw clay and remains for two weeks. After wedging, the clay is formed in wooden moulds by hammer pressing. (Normal dimensions are 10 x 200 x 200 mm - 15 x 300 x 300 mm.) It is dried and fired in a bottle kiln 800 C, then cut in special shaped pieces to the drawings of the designer. Each piece is glazed and fired, 'Moarragh' is decorated in colour with natural-traditional raw materials. 5 refs.
