Abstract
The preliminary work of material implemation requires the use of software. This paper studies use of Matlab7 software of the 9/7 filter which is a transformation with loss (lossy) and 5/3 filter which is a transformation without loss (lossless) by the lifting scheme algorithm. An image of size N x M pixels is treated in two ways. First, the image is treated according only the rows of pixels. This is referred to as the one dimensional treatment of the image and it is denoted by 1D-DWT (One Dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform). Then the resulting image is treated according to columns of pixels. This leads to a two dimensional treatment of the image and it is denoted by 2D-DWT [1]. The lifting scheme (LS) being an algorithm with the perfect reconstruction property, a threshold is applied to the coefficients of the filters in order to compute the PSRN (Peak Signal- to-Noise Ratio). Graphs of PSRN and entropy as a function of the threshold are provided for the two types of transformation of both filters. This article is divided in five parts. First, a brief introduction to the LS is presented. Second, we develop some theory results of the LS. Third, we present our method of implementation. Forth, results and discussions are given. Finally, a conclusion is provided.
