Abstract
In cellular networks, majority of calls and data services occur in indoor areas. In some areas, macrocell does not give adequate indoor network coverage, and thus, many households and businesses experience a poor indoor coverage problem. As a result, in those areas voice and data service quality are very poor and users do not get satisfactory services. To overcome this problem, in many indoor areas, users can use small Cell network known as Femto Base Transceiver Station (BTS) or Home Node B (HNB). Femto BTS gives strong network coverage in indoor areas and it can offload traffic from macrocell layer and improve macrocell capacity. Outdoor users connect to the macro cells and when they enter into their homes, they connect to their femtocell. However, there are some problems for deploying femto BTS in indoor areas. When femto BTS are placed in indoor areas, some macro BTS signal are transmitted from outdoor to indoor and Femto BTS signal also spreads to outside areas. This unwanted signal creates interference. To overcome these problems, interference management is very important. When a user moves from one place to another, successful handover is needed. In this work, we proposed interference management scheme by using power control. To improve mobility management services in indoor environment, we also proposed a handover (HO) procedure from one femto cell to another femto cell. MATLAB is used to implement these techniques. The results prove improved interference management and solve the challenges of higher demand of indoor network coverage and mobility management for femto cells in indoor environments.
