Abstract
The drive toward the "knowledge society (KS)" is becoming an important issue for development. As influential knowledge organizations, universities have an essential role to play in this regard. The ambitious university, "King Saud University (KSU)", recently initiated development programs. for the promotion of its knowledge leadership at the national Saudi level, and beyond. This paper is concerned with introducing these programs for the purpose of sharing their drive and activities, and learning from potential feedbacks. The presentation of these programs is associated with the elements of a recent KS ecosystem framework. The framework integrates the knowledge activities of knowledge generation, diffusion, and utilization, into a "knowledge circle (KC)" that can support sustainable development; and it considers the activation of the circle to be associated with the domains of "strategy, technology, organization. people and environment (STOPE)". The paper hopes to initiate discussions on how to prepare universities for the third millennium.
