Abstract
This paper is a comparative assessment of life insurance in the UK and Saudi Arabia. The main objectives of this study are to investigate the views of Islamic scholars towards life insurance, analyse the variables of Islamic jurists in regards to an insurance contract and life insurance more specifically and conduct a survey of insurance within Saudi Arabia. The paper will suggest that Saudi insurance policy makers should incorporate certain terms in order to make life insurance Sharia-compliant and not in breach of core Islamic ethics, but that there should also not be rigid adherence to legal definitions.
