Conference Title: 2017 Nineteenth International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON) Conference Start Date: 2017, Dec. 19 Conference End Date: 2017, Dec. 21 Conference Location: Cairo, Egypt This paper proposes an effective control strategy to enhance the Low-Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) capability of photovoltaic (PV)/wind hybrid power system. The proposed LVRT strategy is implemented by modification of the control strategy for the hybrid power system. During the severe grid faults, the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique of the boost converter is disabled and the inverter is employed to inject reactive power for enhancing the LVRT capability of PV station. On the other hand, the outer crowbar protection system is activated for enhancing the LVRT capability of wind farm during the grid faults. The effectiveness of the proposed LVRT strategy is evaluated during a voltage sag, symmetrical fault and unsymmetrical fault in the electrical grid. The simulation results show that the proposed LVRT strategy improves the dynamic performance of hybrid power system during and after grid faults, fulfills the German grid code requirements, and protects the power electronic interfaces from overvoltage.
