Abstract
Jordan is considered to be the center of the middle-east healthcare where a comparatively high level of medical care standards is found. However, this good reputation started to face some threats cause of lack of medical technology management. The lack of management might be the cause of many problems as unavailable qualified service personnel, unrecognized importance of the role of the clinical engineer in the medical technology management, low medical expenditures for renewing and upgrading old existing medical equipment, uninterested physicians in adapting new medical technologies, price-sensitive medical markets, negligible medical supplies industries, and unavailable modernized management information systems which facilitate and control the data storing and retrieval. Some solutions are proposed in this paper, summarized by first increased expenditure on medical technology in general and on medical technology management in specific, identifying the importance of medical technology management in maintaining the high level of health care standards, recognizing the importance of acquiring clinical engineers and emphasizing on training them for maintaining and managing medical technologies, in addition to encouraging medical supplies industries by facilitating investments, introducing new modernized management information systems for accurate records archiving and faster data retrieval. Finally, renewing, upgrading, and adapting new medical technologies are a must to maintain the health care standards. More of these identified problems and their proposed solutions will be discussed further in details.
