Abstract

This overview focusses on effects of polymer matrices (PTFE, PEEK, PPS, PES, and liquid crystal polymers), fiber reinforcements (glass, graphite) and internal lubricants on friction coefficient and specific wear rate of short fiber composites when sliding against steel counterparts at different conditions of contact pressure, velocity and external temperature. The results are discussed on the basis of models which describe their tribological behavior using modified rules of mixtures.
