Abstract
Conference Title: 2016 IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE) Conference Start Date: 2016, May 15 Conference End Date: 2016, May 18 Conference Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada In this paper, the concept of varying modulation parameters with respect to time is applied to multi-level Continuous Phase Chirp Modulation (M-CPCM). These multi-mode M — CPCM signals are described and illustrated. Coherent detection of multi-mode M-CPCM in AWGN channel is addressed and the structure of the optimum receiver is derived and a closed-form expression for its symbol error rate is given. Optimum dual-mode M-CPCM systems are identified by minimizing symbol error rate. It is shown that advantage in terms of SNR can be obtained by using multi-mode instead of mono-mode M-CPCM signalling technique. A comparison of symbol error rate performance of multi-mode M-CPCM with conventional M-ary modulations is also provided.
