Abstract
Tundish design plays one of the most significant role in continuous casting technology. Various means of molten steel flow control i.e. turbulence inhibitors, baffles, dam and weir etc. have been introduced in the tundish design with the development in the casting technology. Liquid metal flow and optimization of tundish shape are promising with investigation based on experimental and mathematical modeling. With the advancement of computational methods, mathematical modeling has become more accepted due to the developments both in computer hardware and software. In the present study, computational technique using multiphase flow modeling (VOF) has been developed for molten steel and slag flow through tundish into mould and the effect of flow control devices on two configurations of tundish i.e. with flat dam and weir and with curved dam and weir has been investigated. Numerical modeling has been carried out using the commercial package FLUENT. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
