We report on preliminary tests of a 2x2 cm(2) GEM detector in a negative ion drift chamber [2]. Stability and gas gain results for several negative ion gas mixtures are reported. The micro-structured detectors work reliably in negative ion gas mixtures based on CS2 and achieve gains comparable with those obtained in conventional electron drift gases.
