Abstract
Conference Title: 2017 North American Power Symposium (NAPS) Conference Start Date: 2017, Sept. 17 Conference End Date: 2017, Sept. 19 Conference Location: Morgantown, WV, USA This paper proposes an efficient hosting capacity approach for evaluating the capabilities of a distribution system in accommodating additional loading without violating operational requirements. The calculated maximum possible loading in the distribution system is called loading capacity in this paper. Existing methods for computing hosting capacity require extensive iterations, which can be computationally-expensive and lack solution optimality. The proposed model in this paper removes the need for iterations by linearizing the AC power flow equations and then finding the optimal loading capacity through a developed optimization problem. The IEEE 33-bus test system is used to exhibit the effectiveness of the proposed optimal loading capacity model.
