Abstract
Pleural abrasion has become an effective way of achieving pleurodeseis in the surgical treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax. With the introduction of Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) several techniques have been developed to establish an effective pleurodesis. In an attempt to evaluate two different techniques of pleural abrasion via VATS, we retrospectively reviewed two group of patients who required VATS and pleural abrasion for the treatment of pneumothorax. In each group the abrasion was performed in a different technique using a Marlex Mesh or a rotatory brush in each. The paper compares the short term outcome of the two techniques.
