Abstract
In all over the world, place of delivery is an important issue for mother, child and the family. There is no randomized controlled trail in Pakistan to give correct figure of crude birth rate of hospital and home deliveries. Preference for hospital and home delivery opinion and the reason for delivery place of rural population of Pakistan are lacking and such information will be useful for policy makers.
This prospective study was carried out from July to September 2009. A proforma was designed to get the demographic information of the subjects and their preference for the home and hospital delivery.
A total of 175 women who came to the outpatient department of Isra University Hospital, Hyderabad, Pakistan were interviewed. Their age ranged between 15-40 years. Result shows that most of the women from rural area of Hyderabad, Pakistan prefer hospital delivery over home delivery. This shows they are more caring for their health and life and are more concerned about their families.
In conclusion, In-depth qualitative studies are needed to explore the reasons for delivering at home and not in hospital. Community-based interventions are required to improve the health care system at rural area.
