Abstract

Control systems Cost function Function approximation Job shop scheduling Manufacturing systems Optimal control Piecewise linear approximation Processor scheduling Single machine scheduling Stochastic systems
The utility of receding horizon optimal control for scheduling of manufacturing systems is explored. Both online and off-line computations of the optimal policy are considered. Cost function approximations are used to reduce the computational burden. The results are demonstrated on a re-entrant line and transfer line.
