Abstract
This work presents a technique to reduce the Correlation Coefficient (CC) of a wideband Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna using wideband partially reflective surfaces (PRS). The proposed design of the PRS acts as a superstrate over the MIMO antenna forming a wideband Fabry-Perot Cavity (FPC). The introduction of the cavity reduces the beamwidth of antenna elements, which in turn reduces the overlap between the beams and reduces the CC of the MIMO antenna system. A wideband parasitic patch antenna operating from 9 GHz to 10.4 GHz is used to validate the effectiveness of proposed design. Simulated far-field results have been used to calculate the CC for which a 35-63% reduction is achieved with a bandwidth of 12.5%.
