Abstract
This research investigates the performance of ferrocement laminates made of high strength mortar and non-structural welded wire meshes (WWMs) in strengthening and repairing reinforced concrete column specimens with rectangular cross sections (150 mm x 250 mm) and height of 1000 mm. The ferrocement laminates were applied on unloaded and preloaded columns with 60%, 80% and 100% of its axial capacity. The overall response of the tested specimens under axial compression was investigated in terms of load carrying capacity, axial stress and strain, lateral displacement, and ductility. Test results indicated that ferrocement jackets made of 2 layers of non-structural WWMs have a promising performance. An increase of about 25% and 20% in axial load carrying capacity and axial stiffness respectively, was observed in strengthened columns. The repaired preloaded columns with 60% and 80% of its ultimate load carrying capacity, showed about 20% and 15% increase in its axial load carrying capacity respectively.
