In 1966, L. Levy characterized commutative noetherian rings whose proper homomorphic images are self-injective as motivated by a property of Dedekind domains. The purpose of this paper is to characterize commutative noetherian rings whose proper homomorphic images are almost self-injective, a property that holds for a larger class of rings, including serial rings.
